Camphor comes from a type of evergreen tree that is native to East Asia. The tree produces oil that can be distilled to form tiny, colorless crystals that have been used as a Chinese herbal remedy for centuries.
Camphor can be used as an analgesic, anesthetic, and antipruritic active ingredient. If applied on the skin you might notice a cooling feeling similar to menthol. It is found as an active ingredient in many anti-itch gels and vapor-steam products.
Camphor can be used in combination products to treat bruises, sprains, and give minor relief to people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. It has also been known to add flavor to foods and to help soothe temporary throat discomforts.*
